UV tattoos or blacklight tattoos are tattoos made with a special tattoo ink that is only visible under a blacklight. The UV tattoos are becoming very popular as more and more people are noticing the new tattoo ink.  UV tattoos will cost more than normal tattoos as the UV ink is more expensive than regular tattoo inks.

The UV tattoos are not saw under normal light, with the exception of any scaring that may take place. Under black light, these tattoos become visible with color ranging from purple, yellow, pink to white and other colors.

Finding a tattoo artist who does UV tattoos will be a challenge as many tattoo artists  refuse to work with UV ink, because of the potential medical complications and the difficulty involved in the application process. There are not very many artists within the USA that will offer UV tattoos as of today.

As of right now ultraviolet UV ink for glow-in-the-dark tattoos has not been approved by FDA for use on humans. Chameleon Black light Tattoo Ink does have FDA approval for the purpose of marking fish and game, however it is not approved for use in humans currently. No other tattoo inks have received approval by the FDA making Chameleon black light tattoo ink the only ink used for UV tattooing.

I highly suggest before taking the leap for your UV tattoo, talk with your tattoo artist about how many he or she has done and what complications have been reported.
