Surface piercing ideas

For those of you that are new to surface piercings, Surface piercings are piercings that are placed on the surface of the body. Unlike a nose piercing or a belly button piercing that goes entirely through the skin, surface piercings is pierced on a surface flap of skin, rather than running completely through a piece of body tissue from one side to another.

Proper placement of surface piercings are vital for the correct healing process. Many times with a surface piercing the body rejects the jewelry as a foreign object. When this happens the jewelry is pushed to the surface, causing the piercing to grow out or be pushed out.

Common surface piercings include:

Here are some pictures of some new and healed surface piercings.

surface piercingsHip surface piercing. A Hip piercing is a piercing in the pelvic area through the skin near the hip bone. Usually hips piercing are done one for each hip.

Hip piercings are becoming very popular among women and look very sleek when done properly.

Usually hip piercings done with long surface bars are better because more skin is pierced and the piercing is less superficial and that reduce the risk of rejecting.

Neck Piercing: A neck piercing is a series of surface piercings done to emulate the appearance of a bite on the side of a person’s neck. A barbell is placed in the skin of the side of the neck.

When the earring/barbell is removed it looks like a vampire bite.

Surface bars and microdermals are the jewelry for the neck piercing, with microdermals being the best.

Madison Piercing: The madison piercing is a surface piercing that goes through the skin at the front of the neck.

Some piercers prefer to do these piercings with microdermals, which is a single point piercing jewelry. Microdermals are used in locations that may become irritated.

I was just wondering if hip piercings reject. I really want them, but I don’t want to waste my money, cause where I would go, they would be extremely expensive. Also, on a scale 1-10, how bad does it hurt?

    Thanks,
    Jordyn.

I have my hips pierced and I LOVED them! if you are gonna do it get dermal anchors. its alot less painfull and its less likely to reject! extra piece of advice…get the piercings higher up so they dont get caught on your pants and I jus think it looks cooler too! :)

    Hey Jordyn, it may be too late (just noticed your post date) but hip piercings do have a chance of rejecting, like all surface piercings do. And to your how bad does it hurt question, it does depend on the person, yknow, pain tolerance, skin thickness and such. But I would say about a 6 on your scale. Although it wasn’t the worst piercing i’ve ever gotten. {;

so i am in love with surface piercings!! my sister got her hips done and ever since then i have wanted a surface piercing of my own.I dont think geting my hips done would look so great on me so i was considering get a nape piercing or my wrist done. I am not to sure though i would like to know how bad it will hurt?? seriously can anyone tell me?

    Thanks,
    Shana

Hip piercings have a high reject rate, alot like nape piercings. If you get your hips done, do microdermals. They hurt alot less and have a higher chance of staying in. It’s just poking a little hole in your skin, versus stabbing a needle through.

Uh…..idk if people are aware there is a GIANT artery in the neck right where that piercing is. STUPID. I would never go to a place that would promote piercing there.

Hey….cool site….got some questions! how much does the neck peircing cost? of course things depend on location, but i don’t know anyone with one of those and want one! ^-^ thanks

Of course any piercing is going to hurt. It all depends on your own pain level. Dont go off of someone else’s that doesnt work
